What Clients Say About Clint

Why Choose Online Therapy?

Have you heard the phrases “Telehealth counseling,” “virtual counseling” or “online therapy?” They all mean the same thing…online counseling services for mental and behavioral health.

Therapy has traditionally been offered in-person at a local counseling office. In the 1990’s, videoconferencing technology started to be developed which was a great option for home bound individuals or those in rural areas who did not have access to counseling services. Then in the 2000’s, online counseling became more popular, with a dramatic rise during 2020.

Online counseling services may be a great option for the following situations:

  • homebound due to medical or mental health concerns (ie. high risk autoimmune disorder, agoraphobia, etc)
  • rural areas with limited mental health resources
  • lack of transportation
  • no childcare for adults to seek help
  • working professional with a demanding schedule
  • comfort and convenience of appointments from home

Our practice offers virtual therapy services throughout the state of Texas. If you’re not sure if it is the right fit for you, contact our office and we will help you explore if online therapy is the right option for your needs and goals.

How Online Therapy Works

During your online therapy sessions, you’ll meet with your counselor from the comfort and convenience of your own home using our HIPAA-compliant and encrypted system. Sessions are accessible via a web browser by signing into our client portal or through our app, Telehealth by SimplePractice, on your smartphone or tablet, ensuring a high-quality experience.

Clients must have a working microphone and camera. We recommend testing out your equipment before your scheduled appointment to ensure a strong connection and positive experience.

Find a location in your home that is secure and private. Some clients have met in their home with a closed door, at work in an private conference room, in their car (do not use bluetooth through your car speakers as this projects your conversation for passersby to overhear), and even closets!

Log into your appointment 5-10 minutes earlier to test your microphone, speakers, and camera. You may need to adjust permissions on your device to allow it to connect.

Online Therapy Equipment Checklist:

  • Electronic device with camera and microphone
  • Internet with strong connection
  • Headphones for added privacy and to reduce audio feedback
  • Private, secure location
